Belgian figure skater Loena Hendrickx delivers a strong performance at the Olympic qualification event in China, ranking third in the short program and staying within the top five required to secure a spot for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.
The Belgian figure skater placed third in the short program with a score of 66.92 points, trailing only Adelia Petrosyan (68.72) and Anastasia Gubanova (68.08). To qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, she needs to remain in the top five after the free skate tomorrow.
Hendrickx began her routine tentatively, which can be expected after a prolonged absence from competition. She stumbled slightly while executing a spin and placed her hand on the ice, but she quickly regained her composure and performed an almost flawless short program.
Although she did not appear entirely satisfied as she stepped off the ice, her reaction changed when her score was announced. Seeing her point total brought a smile to her face.
The free skate is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, and Hendrickx will aim to maintain her position in the top five and secure her Olympic ticket.
Loena Hendrickx expressed her joy on social media after the event. “I’m very happy and proud to be back on the ice after such a long time away,” she wrote.
“I know I can do better, but I’ve enjoyed every moment out there to the fullest. That’s what counts,” she concluded.
