Finnish figure skater Valtter Virtanen has officially kicked off his remarkable 20th international senior skating season, and he did so with an inspiring message shared on Instagram. As one of the longest career spans in competitive skating, Virtanen’s journey isn’t just about his accomplishments on the ice – it’s about passion, resilience, and finding balance in a life filled with multiple roles.
In his heartfelt post, Valtter reflected on why he continues to compete and what skating truly means to him:
“People often ask me why I’m still competing.
And honestly, why not? As long as you love what you do and continue striving toward your own goals, there’s no reason to stop in my opinion.
I feel incredibly lucky to pursue what I’m passionate about. Skating has always been more than a sport to me – it’s a part of who I am.
Balancing a demanding career as a medical doctor, being a father to a 4½-year-old, and training at a high level isn’t easy. It’s a daily challenge to find the right rhythm between work, family, and sport.
But it’s possible. And when you find joy in the journey, it’s absolutely worth it.
So here we go – season twenty begins.
Thank you all who supported me always.
Special thanks to my support team.”
