The exclusion of Daniil Gleikhengauz from accompanying Adeliia Petrosian to the Olympic qualifying competition has sparked outrage among top figure skating coaches Tatiana Tarasova and Alexander Zhulin, who criticized the decision as unjust and damaging to Russian figure skating. Here’s a translation of their comments.

Tatiana Tarasova has expressed her frustration after the news broke that Daniil Gleikhengauz, choreographer and coach from Eteri Tutberidze’s team, was denied permission to accompany Adeliia Petrosian at the Olympic qualifying event. The tournament, where Petrosian will compete under neutral status, is scheduled to take place in Beijing from September 19 to 21.

“I could never have imagined this – they’ve become completely shameless. They don’t have the authority to remove our choreographer or coach from a competition; they have no right to do this. It’s utterly outrageous. Who is going to protect us? Who will deal with this issue? At this rate, our skaters might end up going to the Olympics alone,” Tarasova said.

“They’re scoundrels! How can they ban Gleikhengauz? They have no such rights! Do they plan to ban coaches and choreographers now? Who will stand up for us? The Federation? The Sports Committee? This is unfair! There are no such rules!

How long will they keep tormenting us? They just want to bury us entirely! Gleikhengauz is a talented young man! What did he do to offend them so much that they’re behaving this way? Someone must take a stand for us! Adeliia skates so well; she has the potential to win the Olympics. That’s why they’re resorting to these tactics,” Tarasova told RIA Novosti.

Alexander Zhulin expressed his confidence that Adeliia Petrosian will perform well at the Olympic qualifiers despite the controversy surrounding Gleikhengauz’s absence.

“Adeliia will manage. Everything will be fine; there will be a massage therapist present. One of my pairs was similarly not allowed to participate for unclear reasons. I was just as shocked at the time. There’s nothing you can do until the special military operation ends,” Zhulin stated.
