Daniil Gleichengauz, a choreographer and coach for Eteri Tutberidze’s group, revealed that he was denied participation in the 2026 Olympic qualifying tournament in Beijing, where Russian skaters Adeliia Petrosian and Petr Gumennik will compete under neutral status. Here’s a translation of his comments.
Daniil Gleichengauz shared with RIA Novosti his shock at being denied permission to attend the qualifying tournament for the 2026 Winter Olympics to support Adeliia Petrosian. The Olympic qualifying event will be held in Beijing from September 19 to 21, with Russian skaters competing under a neutral status.
“My initial reaction was, of course, shock. I could not even imagine that I might not meet certain criteria. I have always tried to be as correct and careful as possible in my statements. Together with the coaching staff and the federation, we chose me specifically to avoid any potential risks. It seemed like the most logical decision. Nevertheless, I was not approved to attend the Olympic qualifier in Beijing,” Gleichengauz stated.
Since March 2022, Russian figure skaters have been banned from participating in international competitions. An exception has been made for the 2026 Olympic qualifying tournament, where Adeliia Petrosian and Petr Gumennik are scheduled to compete.
