On Saturday, September 6th, the second day of the 2025 ISU Figure Skating Challenger Series Kinoshita Cup unfolded in Osaka, Japan. Representing South Korea in the ice dance category, Hannah Lim and Ye Quan performed their rhythm dance to a remix of Men in Black. The duo earned a total score of 66.99 points, placing them fourth in the rhythm dance. Here’s a translation of their comments posted on MFocus.
After the performance, Ye Quan shared his thoughts in the mixed zone: “The energy and support from the fans were incredible. I think we maintained a good flow throughout the performance, but it’s disappointing that our level ratings were lower. The judges seemed especially strict this time.” Lim added, “We aimed for level 4 on the twizzles, but we only received level 3, and our pattern dance step sequence was rated at the base level. There’s a big points difference between base and level 1, so it significantly impacted our score. This didn’t happen during practice, so I think the standards were particularly tough this time.”
Discussing the program’s concept, Ye Quan described, “Men in Black doesn’t follow a specific storyline but instead brings playful elements like ‘aliens’ to life in an enjoyable way. The key is having fun with each other while performing.” Lim elaborated, “In the beginning, we evoke a secretive, agent-like atmosphere, as seen in the movies, and transition to a lighthearted, energetic vibe toward the end. I think this contrast is what makes the program so engaging.”
Outlining their future schedule, Lim shared, “Next, we’ll compete at the CS Tbilisi Trophy in Georgia, and after the Grand Prix Series, we plan to participate in the Warsaw Cup as well. This year, we only have one Grand Prix event, so we have some extra time. We want to use it to test and refine our programs on different stages.” Regarding their decision to participate in the Kinoshita Cup, Lim explained, “Many Korean national team skaters are competing here, and coach Mie Hamada, who visited Montreal, suggested we enter the Kinoshita Cup, and that’s how we decided to come.”
