Olympic figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova expressed her disapproval of parents forcing children into sports, reflecting on her own well-rounded and pressure-free upbringing. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“I’m very happy with my childhood – it was well-rounded,” said Beijing 2022 Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova. “My parents didn’t try to raise me just as an athlete. If I needed to skip training, I skipped it. During the three months of summer, it was goodbye to everything. Because of this, I do not support parents who push their children into sports against their will.”
Shcherbakova shared that figure skating was just one aspect of her childhood, alongside other activities like dance, music, and art. “Figure skating stood out as the path I chose to stick with, but only because I had no talent for music or art,” she admitted with a smile.
