Tatiana Tarasova expressed strong criticism over the criteria barring Russian athletes from full participation in the qualifying competition for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, which will take place from February 6 to 22. Russian figure skaters received only two quotas – one in men’s and one in women’s singles – while Russian biathletes were completely excluded from events that grant qualification rights for the Games.
“On what grounds are such decisions even made? Why are they not allowing participation in the qualifiers?
And why are we only allowed to compete in two figure skating disciplines? We should have been participating in four categories, but now it’s just two. Did we do something wrong? I don’t understand.
At the same time, the ISU remains silent, offering no explanation. Maybe they’re embarrassed. But we’re not! How can a leading country be excluded from participation in the Olympics? How does that happen? And how long will things remain this unfair?” said Tarasova.
