On the opening day of the Masters in Villard-de-Lans, Adam Siao Him Fa, who struggled with execution and intensity ahead of the Olympic season, finishing second after the short program. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on L’Equipe.
Siao Him Fa acknowledged his performance issues openly:
“There’s a big problem. I need to wake up and get going. This has happened several times now – I don’t approach the short program with enough attack. I need to give myself a kick and push myself for the entire season. Stress is normal, and I didn’t feel overwhelmed or panicked by it. But I held back, and there’s no reason to do that. I’m not injured, I’ve trained well, and yes, I’m sick, but that doesn’t stop me from skating. Honestly, I have no excuses.”
The Masters, which serves to debut new programs rather than compete for titles, saw Siao Him Fa stumble early on his quad lutz, struggle with the landing on his triple axel, and lose momentum on his quad toe loop, reducing it to a double in the combination. His uncharacteristic errors dampened the energy in the arena, especially after Kevin Aymoz stole the spotlight with a remarkable and expressive performance.
