On August 26, Shoma Uno shared his enthusiasm for progress in a lighthearted manner while promoting the Kyoto performance of his ice show Ice Brave 2, scheduled for November 1–2 at Kyoto Aquarena. The show, which debuted in June, will now enter its second phase, featuring new performances and further developments in the ice dance routine he previously attempted with Marin Honda.
When asked about improving his lift technique for the ice dance portion, Uno humorously responded: “If it’s written in the materials, that means it’s something my past self said,” drawing laughter before declaring with a smile, “I’ll raise the level.”
As his posts on X (formerly Twitter) continue to gain attention, attracting fans beyond the skating world, Uno commented:
“I’m not the kind of person who naturally thrives in the spotlight. I’m more the type who prefers staying home and playing games. Back when I competed, I represented Japan on the international stage, so I tried to be careful with what I said, knowing that it could impact others.
Now, I’m freer on social media, expressing myself and interacting as I like. When that leads to more people wanting to watch skating, I’m genuinely happy about it.”
As both a producer and performer, Uno shared the weight of responsibility for the show’s success:
“Being on the production side makes me feel the importance of everything even more deeply. I want to deliver an even better experience than before, and I’ve been approaching every day with that mindset during training. While practice mainly involves what we skaters decide to do ourselves, the effort we pour in is carried into the show and shared with the audience.
I hope everyone looks forward to Ice Brave 2 even more than they did Ice Brave 1, and shares in the excitement we bring.”
A well-known dedicated gamer, Uno explored the connection between figure skating and gaming and how the two coexist for him:
“I’ve been gaming for years, and I can confidently say that gaming doesn’t directly translate to skating skills – and vice versa. When I’m gaming, I completely separate it from skating. They don’t intersect at all.
In the best-case scenario, games can serve as a break, but I also think the most exciting games don’t allow you to relax – they’re intense! A game without stress probably isn’t a great game. It’s a fine balance,” Uno said with a laugh.
He whimsically revealed that he introduced Monster Hunter to all the male participants during the first Ice Brave show and joked that he might bring new gaming challenges for the second edition:
“You couldn’t be in Ice Brave without playing Monster Hunter! For this second round, I think I’ll make everyone my gaming partner again. If someone doesn’t have the equipment, I’ll say, ‘Well, go buy it.’ I want everyone to approach gaming with as much passion as they do their skating performances. Of course, we’ll put on a great show, but when we’re off-ice, we’ll have fun playing together.”
Uno noted the importance of team chemistry in his production, revealing that cast members, “I chose the cast entirely based on their personalities. Behind the scenes, we’re genuinely close and create the show as a team. That camaraderie occasionally shows during performances, and I think audiences will find it comforting to watch.”
After conducting the first rehearsal with the new members on August 25, Uno praised the growth of the group:
“Everyone is maintaining their professionalism while fostering a great atmosphere. Daily practices aren’t stressful, and their attitudes make me think, ‘I want to train even more.’ That’s something I appreciated during Ice Brave 1, and with the addition of new members, I’m happy to see how they enjoy the process.”
