During a fan event held in Moscow as part of Physical Fitness Day, Anna Shcherbakova shared her thoughts on music selections made by her coach and a remarkable victory at the Russian Youth Championships. Here’s a translation.
“I’ve always had absolute trust in my coach. I never questioned whether the music chosen for me would suit me or not. On the contrary, I’ve always approached it with great interest and enthusiasm.
If the coach selected a particular piece of music, I would immerse myself in the process of creating the program, trying to understand why this music was chosen specifically for me. Because, of course, this process is always highly individualized,” Shcherbakova explained.
Shcherbakova also reflected on what she considers one of the brightest highlights of her career: her unexpected triumph at the Russian Youth Championship at the age of 11.
“I think the most vivid victory for me was the Russian Youth Championship. I must have been about 11 years old. It was completely unexpected, and I feel like I haven’t experienced that kind of joy in any other competition. As you grow older, you begin to feel the responsibility – it becomes about what’s next, achieving more, and setting bigger goals.
Back then, the excitement I felt was so genuine, as if there was nothing greater. I felt like I had ‘won life.’ I remember everything vividly. My free skate was to Scheherazade, and for the short program, the music was The Indian.
When the program for The Indian was being set to the music, I didn’t completely understand the idea at first. But as the program came together during the choreography process, I grew attached to it. It became one of my favorite programs,” Shcherbakova shared with a smile.
