On the 5th of this month, notable athletes, including figure skater Mone Chiba (20) attended a recognition and award ceremony for sports achievers in Tokyo, hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Chiba shared her passionate hopes for the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Chiba, who earned a bronze medal at last season’s World Championships, emphasized her focus on refining her artistry as she prepares for the Olympic season. Her first competition of this pivotal year will be the Summer Cup in Shiga, starting on the August 9th.
“I want to deliver the best performance I can with how prepared I am now. What matters in the first competition is how well I can express what I want to convey. My goal is to get a feel for that and focus on improving my performance throughout the season,” said Chiba.
During the off-season, she worked tirelessly to improve her jump success rate but also emphasized the importance of perfecting her artistry while time allows.
“I’ve been training with the mindset of being able to deliver heartfelt performances and exude my unique presence, even when things aren’t going well. That’s something I’ve put a lot of effort into,” Chiba reflected, showing confidence in her progress leading into the competitive season.
