World figure skating champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva shared her recent experiences, including her trip to the U.S., her perspective on engaging with fans, and her favorite music genres and artists, in a series of discussions featured in her segment on Okko Sport. Here’s a translation.
A Memorable Trip to the U.S.
Tuktamysheva recently spent three weeks at a training camp with coach Rafael Arutyunyan in California and described the experience as unforgettable:
“The trip to the U.S. was amazing – very memorable and emotional. I visited the Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, and some beautiful waterfalls. I also worked hard and gained new knowledge. Those three weeks flew by, and I’d definitely do it all again,” she said in her Okko Sport segment.
On Her Connection with Petr Gumennik
In May, reports suggested that Tuktamysheva and single skater Petr Gumennik were in a relationship. The two attended training camps together in the U.S. under Rafael Arutyunyan. When asked about their relationship, Tuktamysheva responded with humor:
“Well, when we’re at competitions, of course, we meet and see each other. So yes, there are meetings with Petr Gumennik, ha-ha. But everything has its time,” she said playfully.
On Winning the Hearts of Fans
Tuktamysheva reflected on how she has managed to capture the affection of figure skating fans despite not holding an Olympic title:
“How do you win such fan love without being an Olympic champion? Well, I don’t think I have that many fans or such overwhelming love. But regardless, I believe the key is to be genuine with your audience and not act like someone you’re not.”
She added: “If people on the other side of the screen feel a certain friendliness or connection with you, I think that draws them in. I just live my life – and thank you for loving me for simply being myself.”
On Her Love for Music and Concert Experiences
Tuktamysheva also opened up about her eclectic taste in music, her recent concert experiences, and her favorite artists: “I love Coldplay – I know almost all of their songs. Recently, I fulfilled a dream of mine by going to their concert, which was an incredible experience.”
She elaborated on her favorite genres:
“I have a wide range of musical interests – hip-hop, classic rock, both domestic and international. I absolutely adore old-school rock, in all its forms. I also enjoy some punk – though not a lot of it – and, of course, classical music. I don’t really listen to Russian pop or rap, except for the occasional retro or old-school track.”
When asked about her favorite concerts, she mentioned:
“I’ve been to three concerts so far: Scorpions, The Weeknd, and Coldplay. Coldplay was absolutely magical; it had been a dream of mine for so many years, and the emotions I got from it were incredible. As for The Weeknd, I went mostly to hang out with friends. The Scorpions concert was more intimate, held in a smaller venue with seated arrangements – it was interesting, but it didn’t leave a deep impression.”
She also shared her dream concert bucket list: “I would love to see Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, and Red Hot Chili Peppers perform. RHCP is one of my all-time favorite bands, if not my absolute favorite.”
