Russian figure skater Sofia Muravieva recently shared her thoughts on collaborating with French choreographer Benoît Richaud during a training camp in Italy, where they worked together on her programs. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Maya Bagryantseva’s Telegram Channel.
“Before coming here, I was really nervous. I worried that I wouldn’t be able to connect with anyone and was anxious about how everything would go,” Muravieva admitted. “But it turned out to be very easy and calm—the atmosphere was amazing.”
She added, “I don’t speak English very well, but I feel like I improved my skills a little over the course of the week. It was incredibly enjoyable to get to know everyone and communicate – even with those who don’t speak Russian. Most people here actually understand some Russian, so that made it easier.”
Reflecting on her experience, she continued, “The last day felt like a graduation of sorts – it was lighthearted and wonderful. Yes, we worked a lot, but I truly enjoyed myself.”
Muravieva also spoke about her impressions of Richaud’s choreographic style: “Benoit Richaud’s choreography is something completely new for me. At first, it felt a bit unfamiliar, but now I feel much more comfortable with it. It was also surprising how much time and attention we dedicated to refining every detail.”
