Rika Kihira (22), 2018 Grand Prix Final champion, has shared her latest jump video as she continues her journey toward a full recovery from injury.
Kihira has spent the past few seasons grappling with the effects of a stress fracture in her right talus bone, leaving her unable to perform at her peak. Last season, she made the difficult decision to forego competition entirely, writing: “I had registered for the Chubu Championships starting on September 21, 2024, but ultimately decided not to participate.”
She opted for two consecutive seasons of rest, focusing on complete recovery while carefully monitoring her condition during practice sessions.
Currently training in Toronto, Canada, Kihira updated her Instagram on July 8 to share her progress:
“After undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Japan, I’ve resumed training in Toronto with Brian [Orser] and Tracy [Wilson],” she posted.
Accompanying her update, Kihira included a video of her latest jump attempt, noting:
“While I haven’t been able to consistently resume jumping yet, I tried a triple Salchow for the first time in a while to check my technique.”
