Tatsuya Tsuboi (22), who competed at the World Championships in March, shared his commitment to the upcoming pivotal year as he aims for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics. With his sights set on the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, Tsuboi has taken a leave of absence from Kobe University to fully dedicate himself to skating. Here’s a translation of his comments.
On June 20, Tsuboi attended the opening ceremony of the newly built Sysmex Kobe Ice Campus in Kobe and performed alongside fellow skaters Kaori Sakamoto, Mai Mihara, and Saki Miyake in an exhibition showcase.
Expressing excitement about beginning training at the state-of-the-art facility, Tsuboi said:
“I’m filled with anticipation to start practicing at Kobe’s new rink, and I’m strongly determined to work hard in training and achieve results. I truly want to dedicate myself entirely to skating. I’ve been skating for about 20 years, and now I want to fully demonstrate everything I’ve built over those years in each and every competition, tackling them with seriousness and focus.”
This past season, Tsuboi achieved notable breakthroughs, earning his first Grand Prix medal – a bronze – at the NHK Trophy and finishing third at the All-Japan Championships. However, his subsequent performance at the World Championships proved challenging, where he placed 21st.
As the 2025–26 season begins in July, Tsuboi remains focused on making consistent progress throughout the year:
“After the Japan Nationals, I’ll be preparing with the assumption that I’ll continue into further competitions and keeping my mindset aligned with that goal.”
