Hana Yoshida (19), who represented Japan at the 2024 World Championships, unveiled her short program (SP) for the Milano-Cortina Olympic season during an open practice session at the Kinoshita Academy Kyoto Ice Arena on June 18. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Yoshida’s new short program will feature music from the 2003 film “Kill Bill” with choreography by Benoît Richaud. Drawing inspiration from the movie’s protagonist, a former assassin, Yoshida seeks to embody that spirit:

“I want to face challenges head-on, like a strong and powerful woman. That’s the image I aim to portray through this program.”

As for her free skate program, Yoshida is still deliberating whether to reuse her “Tsuru” from the 2023–24 season or debut a completely new program. Reflecting on “Tsuru,” Yoshida explained her consideration:
“The speed it creates makes jumps easier to land – it’s a program that only I can do. It also brings back the positive image from the season when I placed third in the Grand Prix Final and made my debut at the World Championships. I want to experience those good vibes again.”

The finalized choice is expected to be revealed before her first competition of the season, the Summer Cup, scheduled for August 9–12 at the Shiga Prefectural Ice Arena.

While she is still debating her free skate program, Yoshida made one thing clear – she will be incorporating triple axel, one in both her SP and free skate programs. Having first landed the triple axel as a first-year junior high school student, Yoshida has relentlessly pursued this challenging jump as a key component of her routines.

“I’ve challenged the triple axel many times up to this point, and I want to keep challenging myself. This year as well, I’m determined to compete with the triple axel.”
