Kimmy Repond opens up about training challenges following the closure of her home ice rink.

Swiss figure skater Kimmy Repond shares how she has adapted her training routine due to the temporary closure of her usual ice rink, balancing early mornings, long commutes, and a focus on safety.
“In Germany, where Caline [Kimmy’s younger sister] and I wanted to train starting tomorrow for some few weeks, the ice rinks are overcrowded with up to 30 skaters at once!
So, I’ve decided to stay in Switzerland and train here instead (unfortunately not in my city, as the rink is still closed for several weeks). I’ll be heading to rinks about 1 hour and 15 minutes away, without traffic!
That means: I’m up at 5:00 AM to find good ice and avoid the rush!
Jeromie (Kimm’s older sister and her coach) is now with Luca in South Africa (she for mental coaching, Luca as a coach) so no coach locally.
But training with just 10-14 skaters on the ice feels safer and helps me improve so much more!
After the 2 serious accidents this season (one with my little sister Caline in August 2024 and one with Livia 2025), I’m extra cautious about where I train.
