Ukrainian figure skater Anastasiia Arkhipova commented on the participation of Russian athletes in Japan’s Ice Show “Fantasy on Ice.” Here’s a translation of her comment posted on her Instagram and UA Tribuna.
“Since 2022, I have participated in Fantasy on Ice for three consecutive years. It was a very special place for me. Japan has always been a country where I felt that Ukraine was understood and supported. The incredible Japanese fans stood in the audience with Ukrainian flags, and after the shows, they wrote me many kind messages that will remain in my heart forever.
That is why this year, I feel great disappointment. The organizers invited two Russian athletes to the show. I do not understand why they made this decision. The war continues, people are still dying, and our cities and ice rinks continue to be destroyed,” Arkhipova wrote.
The event, which runs from May 31 to June 1, will feature Russian figure skaters Anna Shcherbakova and Alina Zagitova. This marks the first time in three years that Russian athletes have performed at an international ice show.
