Seven Key Rules
1. Living in the Moment
For the past five years, my priority has been to remind myself to stay present in the moment. I know it sounds philosophical, but with my fast-paced life, it’s easy to slip into autopilot. You can suddenly wake up two years later and realize you weren’t fully aware of what you were doing or what was happening during that time. For me, being in the moment is crucial. Otherwise, life will simply flash by, and that would be incredibly sad.
2. Act with Good Intentions
It’s also important to do things with kindness and good intentions. The world, as I’ve realized, is full of unpleasant negativity that people love to spread. There’s no good in that. Even if you feel bad inside, you must focus on doing good and avoiding harm because karma will come around. Let’s be honest — we’re all selfish and think about ourselves. So, when you do good for others, remember that it has a way of coming back to you threefold.
3. Embrace Discipline
Discipline is a combination of the first two points. Whether it’s hygiene, communication, clothing, speech, thoughts, or faith, discipline in all aspects of life is essential. This daily discipline isn’t just about saying, “I exercise” or “I eat well.” It’s built incrementally, creating a foundation that leads to greater success.
4. Ask Yourself Questions
My mom raised me with lots of questions: “Zhenya, how are you feeling?” “Zhenya, what’s your mood?” “Zhenya, how are you doing?” She asked me this almost every day, and my answers varied. Today, I continue to ask similar questions of myself, but I also ask:
“How are my loved ones feeling around me?”
“How do my friends feel about me? Am I offending anyone?”
“What kind of person am I? Am I a good person?”
It’s important to continuously reflect.
5. Step by Step Progress
Always keep moving forward, even if it’s slow. If you can’t take giant strides, crawl if necessary — but keep going, steadily and carefully. This applies to every area of life, whether personal, intellectual, or physical. For example, I don’t go to the gym every day or do Pilates five times a week (though I’d like to). But I make a habit of doing small exercises to avoid standing still. Visiting museums every couple of months and making small efforts to continuously improve my life are key strategies.
6. The Joy of Giving
I’ve realized how important it is to give gifts. Until adulthood, I wasn’t great at gift-giving — it just wasn’t something I grew up learning to do. But now it’s become very important for me to give to others, especially meaningful gifts to loved ones. I take it seriously and put a lot of thought into it.
7. Don’t Forget Yourself
Of course, giving gifts to yourself is equally important — and I do it often! Praising yourself, creating moments of celebration, and treating yourself to gifts are essential practices, too.
You’ve probably noticed that the main values in my life aren’t material. I can’t take a photo of what’s most important to me, and I certainly couldn’t post it online — because it’s intangible. Everything truly significant in life can’t be seen or touched.
Most Memorable Gifts
The most precious gifts come from loved ones. A few years ago, my mom gave me a three-carat diamond for my birthday. I didn’t even ask how much it cost. Mom, thank you! I wear it occasionally — you may have seen it on me, though not often.
On one of my birthdays, a fan group gave me a Burberry bag. I still use it for traveling —it’s incredibly practical!
Another unique gift came from a fan group on my last birthday: a ceramic figurine of my pet. It’s a bit unusual but very cool, and it now sits in my bedroom.
