Wakaba Higuchi (24) shared her emotions about competing at the 2025 World Championships. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.

Competing at her first World Championships in three seasons, Wakaba Higuchi finished sixth with a total score of 204.58 points.

“I was able to skate a near-perfect short program. I’m happy I performed like that in this competition,” she said.

As for the free skate, she reflected “It wasn’t like I couldn’t think about anything because of nerves. I was jumping and spinning while thinking, ‘This is how I feel right now.’ In a way, I was able to enjoy the performance.”

“I gave it everything I had. It’s not about the points, but in terms of the overall performance, I think I really did my best,” Wakaba added.

Her close friend Kaori Sakamoto, who had skated just before her, watched from the rinkside. Sakamoto was moved to tears, saying, “I can’t stop crying.” Higuchi also shed tears during the rinkside interview, saying, “I’m so happy that Kaori and I were able to deliver good performances together. Both of us faced really tough moments, and now we feel such relief.”

Looking ahead to next season, Higuchi shared, “It’s not about making the Olympics my goal. Instead, my goal is to give my best every single time. I believe something will come from that approach.”
