On her Instagram page, former single skater Stanislava Konstantinova shared how hard it was for her to deal with the end of her career and regretted that many female skaters end their careers very early. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Women’s single skating has always been young. That’s not bad; progress moves forward, young girls are breaking records.
However, it’s very hard to see how even the brightest stars fade under pressure in fierce competition, facing the challenges of growing up.
I wish our era in the sport could last longer,” wrote Konstantinova.
Konstantinova retired from the sport in January 2023.
“To be honest, as soon as I finished, I felt completely empty. I devalued all my sports achievements. Due to an injury, I couldn’t skate, didn’t know what to do with myself, gained 15 kg, and didn’t like my appearance at all. I didn’t understand where to go next. My self-esteem was just destroyed.
It took me more than a year — I think even two — to cope with all this. Fortunately, by then, I had found something I loved doing. I started choreographing programs. With this creativity and loads of work, I couldn’t stay sad for very long,” posted Stanislava.
