Chaeyeon Kim shared his thoughts on winning historic goald at the Asian Winter Games and her future plans in an interview shortly after her arrival from Harbin. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.

“I was satisfied to show everything I had prepared.” Chaeyeon Kim scored 71.88 in the short program and 147.56 in the free skating, totaling 219.44 points to overtake world champion Kaori Sakamoto and win the gold medal. “While I did prepare hard with the goal of winning a medal, I focused more on my performance,” she said. “I am satisfied that I was able to show everything I had prepared and am happy with the result of winning the medal.” She added, expressing her surprise at winning gold so early in her senior debut, “Honestly, I did not expect to achieve this so quickly. It still doesn’t feel real, but I am truly happy to have achieved a great result on such a big stage.”

“My mother was happier than anyone at the award ceremony,” she said. “Not only this season, but my mother has also made all of my costumes last season. Wearing the costumes my mother made and winning medals on the big stage made this very meaningful.”

“Winning gold medals with Junhwan Cha was even more honorable. Junhwan Cha showed such an impressive performance that I was inspired to work even harder before my event. It is even more honorable to win gold medals together.”

Chaeyeon Kim has had Kim Yuna as her role model since childhood and felt that this competition allowed her to grow further. “I’ve always wanted to be a magnificent skater like Yuna Kim, and I feel happy that the Asian Games have helped me get closer to that dream.”

“Aiming for further growth towards the Milan Olympics” Asked about her future goals, Chaeyeon Kim responded, “I want to enhance the quality of the skills I am currently working on, identify my weaknesses, and show more growth. I hope to win a medal at the Milan Olympics next year with an improved performance.” She has decided to postpone her studies to focus on preparing for next season’s Olympics. “I plan to invest time intensely in training instead of going to school. I want to work harder and show my best performance.”

Chaeyeon Kim is scheduled to compete in the Four Continents Championships in Seoul at the end of this month. “Like in the Asian Games, I want to perform maturely and emotionally touch many people,” she said.

Finally, she expressed her gratitude to the fans. “I am very grateful to everyone who supported me at the Asian Games,” she said. “I will continue to strive to become an even better athlete, so please keep supporting me.”
