Las year bronze medalist Nina Pinzarrone spoke about her goals and expectations at the 2025 European Championships. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.
“It’s nice that people have high expectations of me,” Nina says confidently.
“I’m familiar with the atmosphere and the ice rink here. It’s not been long since I performed well here, and that gives me confidence,” she told referring to the Challenger that she won here in Tallin in November.
“I felt super good in training today. I enjoyed it and I’m ready to put in a good performance tomorrow.”
Pinzarrone has been hampered by pressure pain in recent weeks. “I’ve received injections and it’s better now,” she says. “Without those injections, it would be too painful. I am grateful that my team and doctors give me good support. I feel no pain in ordinary shoes, but the skate presses on it. And it’s on the right, which is a landing foot. I try not to focus on it and not to show it.”
The high expectations don’t seem to bother Pinzarrone. “I actually like that people expect a lot from me. It doesn’t add extra pressure. Instead, it gives me even more desire to show that I belong there.”
Loena Hendrickx, the reining European champion has to withdraw from competitions due to a needed surgery. Hendrickx did wish Pinzarrone success for this European Championships.
“It boosts my confidence that she believes in me. It’s unfortunate that Loena isn’t here. But Jade Hovine and I will represent Belgium as well as we can. I will do my best to keep the European title in Belgium.”
With the 2026 Winter Olympics in mind, it is also important that performances are strong at the European Championships, Pinzarrone realizes. “Now that Loena isn’t here, we will have to try even harder. But we also have to try to enjoy it, otherwise, you can’t keep it up,” she added.
