Wakaba Higuchi (20), who finished third at the Grand Prix Final commented on winning bronze and his next goals for the season. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

“It was a performance without regrets. I think I’ve given it my absolute max,” Shun told about his performance in the free skate. “All jumps except for the flip clicked today. I think I managed to execute jumps that received good additional points,” he told about his technical score surpassed 100 points.

“Well, I was nervous,” Shun admitted speaking about concentration. “Honestly, I was really nervous, but I thought if I didn’t do it here, I’d be even more nervous at Nationals, so I just had to go for it with a strong mindset. But once the performance started, I was able to skate very calmly. I could hear the support from the Japanese skaters really well, they were right in front of me before I started, which inspired me to try even harder than usual.”

The journalist mentioned that Shun looked calm when he saw the scores in the Kiss and Cry, Sato replied, “It was a satisfying score, but there were problems in the short and I also fell on the flip, so while I was somewhat dazed, I thought about how difficult it is to hit two jumps like the lutz and flip.”

Speaking about his feelings about placement, he told, “Well, I really tried hard. It was a tense competition. Honestly, before it started, I thought I wouldn’t be as nervous as at the China competition, but once it actually began, I realized it indeed was the Final. Including the excitement, I ended up being nervous. I couldn’t perform as I hoped in the short. Still, being able to perform in both the short and free without dwelling on the mistakes was a significant gain for me.”

“As a goal for this season, I wanted to medal at the Final along with winning at the Grand Prix series. I feel honored to have been able to compete in the Final, and winning a medal made it even more memorable,” he added.
