Alexandra Trusova: “I thought it would be hard to train for the test skates, since I hadn’t trained as an athlete for two years – but actually, it’s not. The hard part is that my health isn’t the same. Suddenly everything hurts.”

Alexandra Trusova, in Maxim Trankov’s podcast “Free Program” on Channel One talked about sometimes wanting to return to competition. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Q: What do you think about your legendary performance at the Olympics now?
Alexandra Trusova: It was good. Yes, of course, it was well.
Q: Have you rewatched it?
Alexandra Trusova: Many times. I can, and sometimes when I’m sad, I can watch all the performances – from my childhood to the Olympics. I think all people experience this, especially women.
Q: Does it lift your mood?
Alexandra Trusova: No, on the contrary – it’s nostalgia. I think such moments can be watched for a good cry.
Q: Maybe you just want to return to competition?
Alexandra Trusova: Sometimes I do. I suppose I can never stop being an athlete. So, I will always think: look, I could have been competing.
Q: Are you the type of athlete who can’t stop training after ending their career? I remember when I won the Olympics, it was like: alright, I have been training all my life. Why would I go through that again? Never in my life.
Alexandra Trusova: Maybe because you won? I can’t say I always really like training. It’s hard, preparing for performances, every part of my body ached. I understand how much easier it was for me to do things before.
I know what to do to get in good shape, and how much it will hurt my health. From this, I make a choice – whether to compete or not, to train or not. But I can’t not train – that’s for sure. If not on the ice, then I do general physical preparation, choreography.
Q: Because you didn’t win everything you wanted?
Alexandra Trusova: I don’t know. I just don’t like sitting at home.
If Russian athletes have the opportunity to go to the Olympics and I am told there is a chance, then I am ready to train, work, and try to qualify.
Q: So you’re ready to return to the training regime you had before and go through that process again?
Alexandra Trusova: It’s actually not difficult. When I was preparing for the 2024 test skates, I did more training sessions. It seemed like I needed to add more training sessions. Although I thought there would be problems since I hadn’t trained as an athlete for two years. I thought it would be hard – but actually, it’s not. The hard part is that my health isn’t the same. Suddenly everything hurts.
Q: And why did you need all this? The return, the programs.
Alexandra Trusova: It’s interesting. I had choreography done for me last season. Before last season, I had a hip injury; I couldn’t walk properly for two months. I performed in shows with one jump because it was very painful.
I got injured at a training camp, so I had only a short program, we didn’t manage to choreograph the free. Then in November, we did the free program. I had programs, everything went well after the rest, I was always training with Makar anyway.
Evgeni Viktorovich [Plushenko] has long allowed me to attend any training sessions. So did Eteri Georgievna [Tutberidze]. In principle, I was allowed to use all the facilities. Why wouldn’t I train?
Q: A unique situation.
Alexandra Trusova: There was a very funny moment: in the morning I was training with Evgeni Viktorovich, in the evening with Eteri Georgievna. And I didn’t tell either of them. But everyone suspects.
I have a good attitude towards everyone. And I don’t consider switching from one coach to another as betrayal. I have a great relationship with any coach.
Q: We’re allowed at the 2026 Olympics, Sasha Trusova needs to go through the selection – which coaching staff will you choose?
Alexandra Trusova: The one that offers the best conditions. We’ll see. Conditions aren’t just rinks and specialists, but also human relations, listening to my condition. I am grown-up now, I know what I need. And I definitely won’t say in life that something hurts if it’s not true.”

It's great that she can get along with both of them.
