Irina Rodnina stated that the ISU has decided to allow Russian juniors to compete. Here’s a translation of her comments.

“The International Skating Union (ISU) has decided that they will admit our juniors. It has not yet been specified when, where, and under what conditions, but the decision has already been made. This is the first signal towards our return.

In some disciplines, the absence of Russian athletes has a significant impact. For example, in pairs skating or women’s singles. The audience finds it rather dull without the Russians, and this immediately affects the sponsors.

Some federations and athletes are pleased. Understandably – previously they had no prospects, but now they have become stars. It’s hard to blame them; it would be strange not to seize the opportunity that history has provided.

We are used to double standards; attempts to suppress our sport have been there from the beginning,” said the three-time Olympic champion.
