Evgenia Medvedeva spoke about her breakup with the figure skater Dmitri Chigirev. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“Q: In an interview with Maxim magazine, you said: “Dating someone bald and fat… of course, it’s a terrible discrimination, but no.”
Evgenia Medvedeva: Well, those are just my preferences.
Q: But recently your tastes have clarified. You revealed your relationship with the figure skater Dmitri Chigirev. Handsome, neither fat nor bald. Are you still together?
Evgenia Medvedeva: We are no longer together. That’s how life goes sometimes when people realize they are no longer on the same path. There were no loud scandals, nothing; just two reasonable adults talked and understood that probably something had to be done. We decided to part ways.
Q: And how long were you together?
Evgenia Medvedeva: Almost two years.
Q: That’s a long time. It seemed like there was so much love, it was visible that the fire was still burning… Did he hurt you?
Evgenia Medvedeva: No, absolutely not. Our relationship had a lot of love, a lot of understanding, mutual understanding.
Q: Weren’t you jealous of his partner?
Evgenia Medvedeva: No.
Q: It seems difficult to me, in figure skating. After all, it’s a sport where you are constantly hugging, lifting, and spinning another woman.
Evgenia Medvedeva: No, it was fine for me; I initially understood that he was an athlete, a pair skater. That’s it, we don’t discuss it further. There is a sports career, a sports destiny, and the only thing I can do is support him.
Q: There’s an important detail I want to ask you about. Your now ex-boyfriend decided to change his sports nationality to compete for Uzbekistan. How do you feel about that?
Evgenia Medvedeva: I have no feelings about it.
Q: Would that have been acceptable for you? Can you imagine yourself in his place – would you have done the same if, for sporting purposes considering the complex global situation, it was necessary to change citizenship?
Evgenia Medvedeva: No, I can’t imagine it, because I have never been in such conditions as modern Russian skaters. I honestly don’t know. I’m just an observer from the outside. It’s not just his decision, it’s the decision of his coaching team as well,” – Medvedeva said in an interview with Ksenia Sobchak.
