Mai Mihara commented on her attitude for the upcoming season. Here’s a translation of her comments.

At the Japanese team press conference held on the 30th in Tokyo for the opening of the 2024-25 figure skating season, Mai Mihara (25) declared “Gorgeous” as her theme for this season.

Her free program will be to “The Red Violin,” and she explained, “David (Wilson) told me he wanted me to dance gorgeously.”

“From the off-season, having recovered from injuries, I have been building up my training properly, and not just practice but strengthening my body through training to improve my level so that I can perform flawlessly in any competition under any circumstances,” she emphasized her determination.

She also mentioned “looking into the audience’s eyes” as a method to ease her nerves. She always feels nervous during competitions, but at the same time, she feels a surge of gratitude, stating, “Without the support of so many people, I definitely wouldn’t be here.” She revealed, “I look into the eyes of the audience, fill my heart with gratitude, saying ‘Thank you,’ and then switch my focus to skate.”

Mai named herself as her rival for this season, emphasizing, “I want to climb higher again as a competitor. I have to overcome myself.” Mihara is set to participate in the third event of the GP Series in France (November 1-3) and the fifth event in Finland (November 15-17).
