Recently Estonian ice dancer Solene Mazingue has shared a post on her Instagram where she told that she was a victim of sexual assault. She posted another video giving more details of the situation.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the messages of support I have received since I made the decision to speak publicly about what I went through. Your words, encouragement, and solidarity have deeply touched me. They give me the strength to keep moving forward.
I am speaking out today because the situation remains unchanged. It is inconceivable for me to still encounter this person in competitions, as if nothing had happened. He took advantage of my vulnerability, knowing that I was under the influence of medication he saw me take, to commit the irreparable.
I refuse to stay silent. It is time for the shame to change sides.
From a very young age, I have witnessed behaviors that have no place here: violence, pressure, assaults… realities that, unfortunately, have become normalized. Today, I am speaking up not only to move my own situation forward but also to encourage others to come forward. My story is not an isolated one, and history has sadly proven this.
The day of the assault, my life came to a standstill. Nothing has ever been the same. I do not wish this pain on anyone. It is time for justice to be served — for me, for others, and for the future of this sport that I love so much. Together, let’s make sure this sport is finally protected from such violence.
We should be able to skate in complete safety.
My private messages remain open to anyone who needs to talk.”

Drugs? Like psych medicines? Cuz in that case, if you’re on psych meds, you probably shouldn’t compete, it’d just add more strain and diminish results, but who am I to mandate that. It is shameful what that man did, and I’d like to see him removed from any competition from now on, domestic or international, even though the ISU probably let the bastard in, and he should be prosecuted and put behind bars for a long time.
To Skates: you are completely right. Guess it’s tough to prove in cases like this, especially after some time has passed. Hoping the justice system will be able to establish the truth.
To No War: No,I don’t think it would not be a good idea for her to publicly name the man she is submitting a police complaint against. Because legally, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. And that also means that if she names him and there isn’t a guilty verdict, he can sue her for defamation.
Thanks for posting the video. Would it be a right thing to do to name the abuser..?
