In the interview with Web Sportiva Shoma Uno recalls the moment in the ice show “One Piece on Ice” where he lifts Marin Honda. Here’s a translation of his comments.

Q: In the new finale, there’s a scene where Luffy (Played by Shoma Uno) lifts and spins Ms. Marin Honda, who plays Vivi.

Shoma Uno: I wonder if I can even do the lift (laughs).

Q: During a press conference, you mentioned that “Ice dancers and pair skaters do things that are more difficult than I had imagined.”

Shoma Uno: Yes, everyone makes it look so easy. When I tried it myself, I truly realized how difficult it is. However, since I’ve retired from competition and my main focus going forward will be ice shows, I think it’s best to be able to do as many things as possible. I believe trying new things fits my approach, so although I’m still not very good at it, I will keep trying (laughs).

Q: Before attempting it, did you think that a carry lift would be easier than a lift where you raise the partner?

Shoma Uno: On the contrary, I’m short and not very strong, so I thought it would be impossible for me. But, (for lifts) it turns out it’s not just about strength but also about the correct technique. Knowing where to hold the body to make it easier, or feeling less weight due to centrifugal force.”
