Daisuke Takahashi performed in ice show “Friend on Ice” show together with Shizuka Arakawa and Mao Asada. Here’s a translation of his comments.

In the opening act, Daisuke Takahashi performed a number with Shizuka Arakawa and Mao Asada. Arakawa mentioned “It was fun from the moment we started creating it since the three of us had never skated a number together before. Especially Dai-chan (Takahashi), he was surprisingly reliable and the most composed!”

“Gems” that was the theme of this show. Takahashi embodied this concept through his skating in solo number “Wake Up, You’re Dreaming.” “Gems have this aspect that can bewitch people, I think. From that bewitching quality, you can get lost in a mysterious world and find yourself unable to escape. I choreographed the program myself to capture that feeling,” Takahashi explained about his solo program.

“The music starts off beautifully, and just when you think it will continue that way, it shifts to something jazzy or even bluesy, then comes back to beautiful feel again. It’s a very difficult piece to interpret. That’s why I thought it could produce a mysterious atmosphere. Nowadays, I often skate with other skaters, so I feel a little nervous doing solo (laughs),” said Takahashi.
