Due to doping issues of Russian skater Kamila Valieva, the medal ceremony for the figure skating team event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics was held on the 7th in Paris, where the Summer Olympics are being held. Team USA was awarded gold and team Japan was awarded silver. Here’s a translation of the comments made by Japanese skaters.

Yuma Kagiyama said, “Receiving the medal in such a beautiful place in Paris made me feel like it was something we all won together. Although Uno-san couldn’t attend due to schedule conflicts, I believe we shared the joy while carrying Uno-san’s feelings as well. The presence of the Eiffel Tower was tremendous, and hearing cheers that you don’t usually hear in figure skating was incredibly fulfilling. I felt very happy,” he commented.

Kaori Sakamoto expressed, “there was no medal ceremony, and I felt confused about it.It was complex. At that time, I was told it would take about a year to receive the medals. Waiting ended up turning our bronze into silver, and I was happy that we could share the medals with this team. I felt the joy from two and a half years ago with fresh emotions.”

Wakaba Higuchi mentioned, “Two and a half years ago, I gave my all and performed feeling that I had done my utmost. So I returned to Japan with mixed feelings. There were no spectators in Beijing, so it was delightful to have the medal ceremony here surrounded by many spectators.”

Ryuichi Kihara also mentioned, “I couldn’t imagine what emotions would arise, but I felt happy, and sharing this joy with everyone made me sincerely happy,” while Riku Miura stated, “I am grateful that they arranged a medal ceremony like this after two and a half years.”

Misato Komatsubara said, “I am happy to have this opportunity to celebrate with everyone, something I couldn’t have imagined two and a half years ago. Although I’ve retired from competition, I hope to pass on my experiences to the next generation,” and Tim Koleto expressed, “I’m happy to be here with such wonderful team members. I think we really did our best.”
