The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal by Team Canada regarding the redistribution of the medals at the Games.

“The Panel of CAS arbitrators in charge of the matter deliberated and concluded that the results of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva in the Olympic Figure Skating Team Event were correctly disqualified, without any possibility in the ISU Rules to re-allocate points in favour of Team Canada, following the retroactive disqualification of Kamila Valieva,” CAS media report says.

“The ranking announced by the ISU on 30 January 2024 is confirmed as follows:

  1. United States of America 65 pts (gold)
  2. Japan 63 pts (silver)
  3. Russia 54 pts (bronze)”

This certainly was a long and drawn out case, one that could have been prevented if Kamila’s results had come through on time, thus excusing her from Olympic competition and sparing her the international shame and speculation. There are two ironies I’d like to point out though: the 1st, she was the only one of her team to have received a positive test for a banned substance, as far we know. The 2nd irony, though the CAS deducted a large number of points off of the team medal, something like 50, which were Kamila’s points, the ROC still came in 3rd!! It is a great victory for some to even place within the top 5 or 10, much less 3rd!! You can’t beat clean sport and you will certainly have a hell of a time beating Russia!
