The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeals of the Russian Olympic Committee, the Russian Figure Skating Federation, and individual skaters against the reranking decision announced by the International Skating Union in relation to the final standings for the Team Event in figure skating at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
It was also reported that on August 7th, during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, an award ceremony for the 2022 Games’ team event in figure skating will take place. Americans will receive gold, and Japanese will get silver.
Originally, the Russian team won the event, but they were moved to third place due to the disqualification of Kamila Valieva for doping. Currently, the CAS continues to consider Canada’s appeal on the possible stripping of the bronze from the Russians.
“I just don’t understand why they can’t invite us to the medal ceremony in Paris! Those medals are ours. Whatever their wording might be, we need to receive our medals and show everyone who’s who at the next Games!” said Tatiana Tarasova

To Blossom: Thank you, I agree with you. My impression is that the ‘pointing out’ does not help in the situation, but gives more fuel to the propaganda. I’ll also mention a couple of recent examples from revolts in Hong Kong and Belarus there ‘’everybody’ went on the streets, for days. It did not help. It’s not that simple.
Two things can be true at the same time. I think the average Russian John Doe wants to just live as normal as possible under the circumstances they are in, same as everyone in every country. It’s a lot to ask for them to risk their lives and those of their families, and try to topple a regime like Putins, when the other side has all the resources, weapons, etc. Especially when you never know what’ll happen after. It might just be that striking off the Hydra’s head will spawn someone even worse grabbing power. Better the devil you know and all that. Keeping your head down to stay alive or not imprisoned is not heroic, but it’s human. That being said, this doesn’t mean there are no consequences for complicity, whether that comes voluntarily or not. As long as the majority of Russians go along with what the Kremlin decides, trying to not rock the boat and put themselves on the state’s radar, they’re just going to have to live with people pointing out that while they not are active supporters, their silence at the end of the day equals passive support by default. No one can have their cake and eat it too.
To Dominique: I thought you knew that Russia is a dictatorship, full of propaganda and fear. To stand up against the dictator requires high IQ and enormous bravery. You are judgemental of figure skaters (and ALL Russians) who are lacking both of these qualities. I have my suspicions about your IQ… Tickets offer is still valid to the brave knight Dominique.
@ No war Why are you all of the sudden taking about totally different things? You are not answering my post at all, you are talking about bravery and tickets to Russia or Ukraine. When all I have written about was your Putin supporting Olympic team. Anyway, thanks for the quick lesson in Russian ”logic”
To Blossom: Doping is not only Russian problem. Plenty of athletes from other countries have been caught. Russians are actually being discriminated and humiliated. The ‘western’ system is full of lies, corruption and propaganda, just like the Russian one. It is becoming more obvious is Russia, but the same will happen to the ‘western’ paradise. Fasten your seatbelts.
To Dominique: should it be run IQ tests / bravery tests in order to participate in spots competitions? I read, speak and listen to different languages / get information from different sources. The world is not as black and white as you are presenting it. I’ll pay for your tickets to Russia or Ukraine such that you can contribute to the fight on the right side, as brave as you are…
@ No war Don’t you ever dare to project your own problems (in this case brainwashing by propaganda) on others. This is very known manipulation technique I could give you a whole lecture about, but something I would never use. Enough about that.
And back to the topic – so you know about the examples, you call those people stupid and/or brainwashed. Yet, both FS’s short article and my commen is about those guys because they literally constitute your Olympic team from 2022. So you are contradicting yourself.
To Dominique: I know about these examples. Most of these guys are just stupid and/or are brainwashed by propaganda, like you are. Standing up against Putin is extremely dangerous. You might have seen examples of Navalny and thousands of other political prisoners in Russia who tried this? Or you prefer not to focus on this side of the story as it becomes to complicated? Ps: l’m as guilty in this war as you are;)
@No war Your skaters have nothing to do with this war?! Well, thank you for a typical example on Russian art of creating a parallell reality. Sinitcyna, Katsalapov, and this other Olympic pair (forget their name, but silver in Beijing) with the symbol “Z” attached to their Olympic jackets, Plushenko organizing shows in clear support for the war and being good friend with butcher Kadyrov, Sasha’s ex boyfriend (again no good memory for the names) prizing Puting with pride, and Valieva doing the same, Alexandr (Mishinas partner) doing the same and being just a big hybris like all colonial minds are. They are all guilty and so are you because you are defending them. Or I guess you have just conveniently missed all above. In that case – look it up!
To Dominique: figure skaters have nothing to do with the war in Ukraine. You are brainwashed by your propaganda. Very comfortable for your government(s) to present Russia and ALL Russians as The Big Evil. This makes you feel gooood, isn’t it?
With Russia being the country that has had the most medals stripped in the history of the Olympics, Tarasova’s words ring hollow to me. How many athletes from other countries have been deprived of their moment on the podium because of Russian doping? And now, because, if the current status quo holds and Russia keeps the bronze, the shoe is on the other foot for once, we’re supposed to have sympathy?
Yes Tatiana. Short answer – the aggression against Ukraine.
And also as it happens, literally every single one of the athletes in your team support this war and your president.
Should you get those medals (which I do hope never happens), they’d probably arrive by mail
Ukraine – look it up
