Shoma Uno and Marin Honda participated in a stage greeting for the anime ice show ‘ONE PIECE.’ Here’s a translation of their comments.
Regarding his recent retirement, Uno said, “I have been able to take it very slowly. Of course, I am still skating, but instead of skating as driven by competition, I am able to practice the kind of skating I want to do. I also have time to play games as much as I like now,” he revealed.
“When the performance was decided a year ago and I gave a greeting in the same way, I had a feeling of ‘Is it going to be okay?’. I successfully finished One Piece on Ice and made fun memories. I’m happy to be standing here again with the thought of ‘I want to do it again.’ I think I was able to perform more than 100% in last year’s performance. This year is a rerun, but I think I can show something more than last year, as if it’s not a rerun. I would be very happy if you come to see it this year too,” Uno said.
Shoma Uno, who plays the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, said, “When I saw the footage from last year, I thought my arms were more chubby than I thought so I wanted to do something about it. As figure skaters don’t really have arm muscles, I started doing push-ups. At first, I could only do about 10, but now I can continue up to 50,” he exclaimed proudly.
Marin Honda who plays the heroine, Nefertari Vivi, said, “I watched the Alabasta arc anime and movie a lot, and I revised until the lines came out naturally. I thought about what emotions Vivi has in the story, and I wanted to be as close as possible to her, who values her friends and country. During practice, I may have empathised too much with Vivi, and it might have been dark,” she said with a wry smile.
“I was so happy when the rerun was decided. We can all experience unbelievable tension before the show, a sense of achievement, and emotion again. I’m very excited,” Marin said. About her favorite scene, Honda explained with a smile, “In this work, Vivi interacts with almost all the cast members. Especially the fighting scene with Luffy is one where if we miss a beat, we could end up punching each other in the face. That’s how much both of us put our emotions into the performance, and if we make a mistake, it could happen. It really sticks in my memory.”
