In the interview posted on Wep Sportiva, Kao Miura talks about his new short program. Here’s a translation of his comments.

The “Dream On Ice 2024” was held at the KOSE Shin-Yokohama Skate Center from June 28 to June 30. In this ice show, conducted in a competition format with all lights on and a six-minute practice session, Kao Miura (19) presented his new short program (SP) for 2024/2025 season to The Umbrellas of Cherbourg choreographed by Shae-Lynn Bourne.

“I liked the song and I wanted to perform it for some time. Watching the pair from Korea (Hannah Lim / Ye Quan) use it in this year’s World Championships, I felt it was a really good program and I chose it because I wanted to change my image as well.”

He was talking about his last season’s programs “”Attack on Titan” and said he wasn’t satisfied with his performance. “Looking back at my performance, I felt that I wasn’t really doing figure skating. I did some jumps and got the crowd excited, but it was more like a program that people would like. Regardless of the competitive scoring aspect, I had the impression, ‘I’m not doing figure skating’.

I didn’t show any clean glides, and I felt it was more about my power than captivating with my skate. So, I wanted to polish my skating even more and felt that I could get more points if I skated such a program.

Those watching may not have much of an image of the music (for my new free program), but when I heard it, I had the feeling that it suited me and I could also imagine myself skating to it.

I also wanted to create a program that could differentiate me from others. To compete with the three people who stood on the podium at the World Championships – (Ilia) Malinin, (Yuma) Kagiyama, and (Adam) Siao Him Fa – I thought it was absolutely necessary to differentiate, of course, from a technical aspect as well.”
