Wakaba Higuchi (23), the team silver medalist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, started the season at the Aqua Cup in Chiba and scored 63.35 points for the short program. Here’s a translation of the news and her comments.
In her first competition of the season, she successfully landed all three jumps, however two were marked under-rotated, and expressed satisfaction, saying “I felt good for a first competitions, and the feedback was good.”
For her new SP, she used music from the movie “Dune”, and asked her choreographer Jeffrey Buttle to choreograph it so that she could “bring out strong expressions.” She said, “I asked him to make it so that I could fully express the strong parts. I think that part really comes out in the steps.” The movie is set in a desert, so she visualizes the sand through her costume and hand movements.
She finished last season, which was her return to competition after a long rest, and made a vow to “end the season by putting everything I have into it.” She continued, “There were parts in the short program where I wasn’t consistent, so I want to approach the free program with ease. This year, I want to land a triple axel properly in a competition. That’s my goal.”
