Shoma Uno, who announced about his retirement in May and turned into professional skater, spoke of a “change in his mindset.” Here’s a translation of his comments.
He will take part in the ice performance at the LaLa arena Tokyo Bay on May 29th. Uno spoke excitedly of the opportunity, saying “I’m happy to be able to skate in the ice show at such a large venue.”
“It’s really amazing that we can have so many people come. I think this is a dream arena where everyone can enjoy together. I’m planning on collaborating with top skaters from around the world for the show. I want to make it a fantastic show worthy of this arena,” said Uno
Looking forward to the performance, he admitted, “To be honest, I do have concerns. Objectively, I don’t think I have the drawing power to fill such a big venue with my own strength. But “I want to make it a spectacular show that makes people who have come to see it think, ‘I want to see it again.'”
When asked by the presenter, “Are you prepared for the triple jumps?”‘ Uno replied with a smile, “I am preparing for the quadruple jumps.”
Shoma also spoke about changes in his mindset. During his active career, he felt like he was “proceeding further down the road that was laid out for me,” but becoming a professional has broadened his perspective. “There are many paths, and I can proceed in any direction I like. Therefore, I do have a feeling of wondering what I should do. However, since I have skating as my main axis, it’s easy to go in different directions. If I go down a certain path and find that it’s a mistake, I can just go back and start over, and make various experiences and mistakes my nourishment, while steadily finding what I want to do.”
