Anton Sikharulidze has announced that Russia would gladly welcome skater Ilia Malinin.

The acting head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Anton Sikharulidze said in the interview with Channel One that they would gladly welcome Ilia Malinin in the Russian team.

American figure skater Ilia Malinin is the son of Tatiana Malinina and Roman Skorniakov, who previously represented Russia and Uzbekistan.

“Q: We had a trend in Russia when we were giving our nationality to athletes: Elena Berezhnaya, Tatiana Volosozhar, Yuko Kavaguti.

Anton Sikharulidze: All I can say is that we would always be happy to welcome the newly minted world champion Malinin.

Welcome to the Russian Figure Skating Federation. We are ready to consider any proposals,” said Sikharulidze on Maxim Trankov’s podcast “Free program” on Channel One.

    Everybody would want Malinin now. But, I guess, Malinin would prefer World Championship to Channel One Cup;)
