Here’s a translation of Kao Miura’s comments about 2024 Worlds made in an interview posted on Nikkansports.

At his debute World Championships Kao Miura took 8th place.

Q: Even though the result was frustrating, you managed to recover in the second half of the free program.

Kao Miura: I was always thinking never give up, so I felt great to get back in the second half. Still, the loop in the first half, the very first jump also determines the flow. I think I was a little disappointed because I felt good after coming off practice.

Q: After feeling a little frustrated with the short program, did you feel mentally better?

Kao Miura: The short program was a disappointing result, so I reset my head the next day and tried to refresh really forgetting about it. It’s important to remember the regret but if you focus on it too much, things will get worse, so I was trying to forget and spent the day relaxed.

Q: That was noticeable in the second half.

Kao Miura: Yes. I was able to do well in the second half, so my condition was not bad at all. That’s why the first half was rather disappointing. I feel sorry for the result, because I got one of the three spots for Worlds. I want to use this experience as a springboard and try my best.

Q: What lessons did you learn from your first World Championships?

Kao Miura: The atmosphere is definitely different from other competitions, and even from practice, I get the impression that all the skaters are at their peak here. I had a good practice, but it doesn’t mean anything if I don’t jump on the day. I feel a lack of power and also found it very hard to keep in good shape from the beginning to the end of the season. The first half of the season, I thought I could always keep it in good shape, and after the New Year, I felt it was slowing down. So I felt like I still had a lot to learn, even with those difficulties.

Q: The season was long and tough.

Kao Miura: Yes, that’s right. But all the top athletes go through it every season, and the top skaters are always in a good shape. I feel that I still have a lot to catch up to them. However, I have a lot ahead of me so I think this was a good experience for next season. I see this as a plus, and how I spend the off-season will also change next season. I want to have an off-season with no regrets.

Q: Avenging at next year’s world championship.

Kao Miura: Yes, I will work hard to compete with the athletes who skated in the last group next year, and with Adam, who gave an amazing performance in the first group. I would like to do my best.”
