Tatiana Tarasova is impressed by the performance of the Canadian dancers at the World Championships. Here’s a translation of her comments.

“I am impressed by the ice dance performance. The Canadian pair made such an impression as if I had been to the theater, movie, and a dramatic performance. It’s something incredible!

The Canadians are ahead of their time, I couldn’t even dream of such a program. It’s a unique, outstanding piece of art,” said the honored coach of the USSR Tarasova.

Tarasova does not have students now. A bit easier for her to be impartial (within the existing limitations in Russia). I find it normal coaches promote and support their students as the coaches are emotionally involved with their ‘children’. And I totally agree with her praise of the Canadians! (Would you expect North Koreans to praise American athletes…? Dictatorships are cruel and ruthless…)

  2. Eileen C. says:

I thought they were amazing at telling the story so I can see why Tarasova said it was like going to the theatre.

  3. Susan Perry says:

Lovely program. IMO Virtue and Moir’s programs were superior and they were certainly ahead of their time.

I can assure you that we are not nuts just because some political changes take place in the modern world. Lots of Russian people admire what is deserved to be fairly admired about. Piper and Paul, as well as Deanne, Illia, Isabeau, Adam and some other skaters (here we always use our own taste) deserve admiration which shouldn’t ever be under any flag and prejudices. Patriotism is dangerous if it doesn’t provide objectives to judgements, dot ha think so?))

  5. Xenia says:

Nope, she isn’t. And the every word is true, ’cause Piper and Paul were incredibly touching, their choreography at the level beyond any past experiences on ice, truly.

  6. DMP says:

    Is she being sarcastic?

  7. Gayle Brown-Hutchins says:

Something in my soul says: “BEWARE”.

  8. Dominique says:

Nice to here a Russian coach expressing her admiration for western skaters. It’s a good beginning.
