At the press conference after the event, Chaeyeon Kim said, “I never expected to win a medal today so it was a really new and joyful experience. I was in 6th place after the short program, which allowed me to skate a bit more comfortably, but I was still a bit nervous going on (to the ice rink). I was surprised to win a medal and I still can’t believe it but I’m truly excited.” She smiled.
Regarding her feelings after her free skating performance, she explained, “I kept having a hard time training, but this morning I was particularly having a hard time, which I was quite worried about. After skating clean, I felt a sense of ‘I did it’, and I was really happy to skate clean in a big event that I most wanted to do well this season.”
Unable to practice properly due to an injury early in the season, Chaeyeon Kim, who resolved to ‘just show what I can do’ instead of thinking about medals, had a good harvest this season, securing medals consecutively at the Four Continents Championships and World Championships. Reflecting on this season, she said, “It was a tough time due to injuries, but I think I managed to finish the final competition well. I think it was a valuable season where I had a lot of new experiences.”
