Here’s a translation of Yuzuru Hanyu’s comments about his show Notte Stellata posted on Hochi News.

Two-time Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu held the second day performance of his ice show “Yuzuru Hanyu Notte Stellata 2024” at the Sekisui Heim Super Arena on March 9. It marks 13 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake on the March 11th. Hanyu, who was affected by the disaster in Sendai at the age of 16, felt a “light of hope” in the starry sky he saw on the road to the evacuation center. The show’s title “Notte sSellata” is Italian for “starry sky”. He poured prayers and hopes into his skate and gently said, “Please live your life to the fullest, cherishing every second.”

During the opening, Hanyu expressed his aspirations, saying, “Tomorrow will mark 13 years since March 11. I hope to create performances that bring hope, desire, courage, and a determination to live and strive for tomorrow.”

He took the microphone for the opening. In this ‘notte stellata’ today, all the skaters here would like to express their courage, hope and the strength to face difficulties to all of you who have supported us and to those who have suffered from the disaster. I will skate as hard as I can, hoping and praying that I will have the strength to face it.”

Hanyu also took the microphone at the end and concluded, “Thank you, everyone! It has been 13 years, and we hope we have been able to deliver our own version of hope to all of you here. We intended to offer a light towards tomorrow. Please, keep moving forward, and continue to strive. That is our wish. Please shine like the starry sky, like each one of you is a light. Truly, thank you for today.”
