Davis and Smolkin took 8th place at the 2024 European Championships.

Here’s a translation of Gleb Smolkin’s comments reported by sports.ru journalist Maya Bagriantseva.

“We will carefully review the performances later with the coaches. Some things went really well for us, while others not so much. We feel that we could have performed better – it’s certainly disappointing. But this is also experience; this is our second European Championships, and there are things we need to work on.

In our very first senior season, we qualified for the Olympics, then there was a year without competitions. So, we still have a lot to learn – including how to perform on such grand stages with so many spectators. We have never performed in front of such a huge audience; it’s very unusual.

Physically, we are well-prepared, and we went out for the performance without panic – but nerves still got the better of us. But I’ll repeat – this is a very important experience for us; we’re not here to compete for the podium, that’s obvious.

What are the plans for the future? Celebrate Diana’s birthday, take a short break for ourselves, and then get back to work. We already understand that we will make some minor changes to the programs. The World Championships in Montreal is ahead and it certainly won’t be easier there,” – sports.ru correspondent Maya Bagriantseva cites Smolkin’s comments.

“We qualified for the Olympics”. Does this woman really believe the Olympics would’ve happened for her if her mother wasn’t who she is?
