Irina Rodnina shared her opinion about the prospects of the Georgian ice dance duo Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin at the European Championships.

“It’s hard to say anything; how much time do they need to adapt? Does Georgia, being such a figure skating country, require some special adaptation? Everyone understands that their transition is a forced decision.

I don’t consider them a promising pair. It would be interesting to hear her mother, understand her position – all her students are sitting at home, and her daughter is competing,” said Irina Rodnina, a three-time Olympic figure skating champion.

  1. No war says:

To FS Gossips: Rodnina is part of Duma (Russian ‘parliament’) and she voted in support to start the war. Diana has Georgian heritage and she did not start the war. I think Rodnina should rather concentrate on her own ethical/ moral standards / choices;) And, by the way, thanks for the good blog!:)

  2. No war says:

Does not Rodnina have a daughter who is US citizen and lives in the US? I want to understand Rodnina’s position why Russians have to be in the state of the war while her daughter is enjoying her life?? Rodnina voted herself in support to start the war. She is throughout rotten. It’s Because of people like Rodnina Russian figure skaters are sitting at home now!

Yep) But at least her daughter has nothing to do with representing Russian national team. I think this is the biggest issue with Diana. Rusfed did a lot to put her into Olympic team for 2022 Beijing Olympics which even caused them losing a couple of promising team (for example Skoptsova/Aleshin) and for what? For Diana switching to another team as soon as Russia got banned. The story of them getting the release easily while others athletes can’t (Dario Chirisano) also doesn’t add sympathy to this team.
