Japanese single skater Marin Honda announced her retirement.

Japanese figure skater Marin Honda has announced her retirement from active competition at the end of this season. The news was revealed on the January 5th by her management agency. A press conference is scheduled to be held on the January 11th in Tokyo.

Honda started skating at the age of 2 inspired by Shizuka Arakawa, 2006 Olympic chanpion. Marin Honda is 2016 Junior World champion, 2017 Junior Worlds si;ver madelist and 2015 Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medalist.

In the women’s short program at the 2023 Japanese Nationals, she completed her performance with a score of 44.42 points, displaying an emotional expression and touching the ice with gratitude, crossing her hands. Looking back, she expressed, “It was a special feeling in my last year of university and the last Nationals.” When asked about her future, she mentioned, “I don’t know what I can say about it now,” but she expressed her heartfelt thoughts, saying, “Regardless of what people say, I did my best in my own way. I feel refreshed. I have no regrets. I want to take the time now to praise myself.”

On New Year’s Eve, she posted on her Instagram, “It was a very intense year that passed in the blink of an eye. I’ll do my best to make next year fulfilling!” and, as the new year arrived, she made this significant decision.
