Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: “Nathan Chen has the best technique for all the jumps. I also really like Shoma Uno’s quad flip and triple axel. And I’ve never seen a better quad salchow than Yuma Kagiyama’s.”

Here’s a translation of Elizaveta Tuktamysheva’s comments regarding jumping technique in men’s single skating.

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: If we talk about who has the best technique for all jumps, it’s Nathan Chen. He has given figure skating everything in terms of technique. Almost all of his jumps were amazing, except for the axel and salchow, probably. They are not as magnificent, but the flip, toe loop, and lutz are very good. However, it’s almost impossible to find a skater with perfect technique on all jumps.

I also really like Shoma Uno’s quad flip – when he does it at speed, it turns out very clean. His triple axel is also magnificent – the most flighty and highest. When he enters it and jumps and flies half of the rink, it looks very impressive.

I’ve never seen a better quad salchow than Yuma Kagiyama’s. I don’t know if it’s even possible to jump it better than Yuma. He executes an amazing jump: perfect, at speed, high, with a clear exit without losing speed.

Many skaters do the quad toe loop very well. I can’t single out one skater here. But as for the quad loop, it’s quite a challenging jump, and not many skaters do it. But again, if Shoma can land it, it looks good. It’s challenging to make the loop super beautiful because it’s not as flighty – you can’t take so much momentum and speed on it, as you could easily deviate from the arc if you lean a little more inside. There are too many nuances,” noted Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.”
