2019 European Champiom Sofia Samodurova shares reasons for ending her sports career. Here;s translation of her comment.
“After that season, I relaxed a bit. I won’t hide the fact that I gained some extra weight. Of course, it’s very hindering for a girl; every kilogram matters. I felt it that way.
It was emotionally challenging to gear up for the next season, knowing that you’ve already set a high bar, delivered many clean performances, and that much more will be expected from you in the coming season. I don’t know how it happened that everything fell apart.
Throughout my career, I listened to the coaches; they always supported me. There was never a time when they left me without attention. We just kept working, preparing for the season. Perhaps everyone understood that I was approaching the season, compared to the previous one, not in the same form as before.
I tried to lose weight, worked harder, practiced programs more. But the transitional age began, a significant self-doubt emerged, some complexes related to the extra weight. Mental glitches, thinking I couldn’t perform certain jumps, even though I knew I could, and it was within my capabilities.
It’s just the transitional age. Every athlete must go through it and understand what it’s like,” said Samodurova.
