Alexandra Trusova talked about her attempts of different quadruple quintuple jumps. Here’s the translation of her comment made for Okko Sports.
“How long ago did you last attempt a quadruple loop?
Alexandra Trusova: I last tried it after the Olympics. I was experimenting with everything, including the quintuple Lutz, quad-quad, quad-axel, and so on. I didn’t learn them; I was just trying them out because it was interesting. I did the loop with a step-out.
But when I was landing it clean, I did it without arms (refers to tano position – ed.). After the Olympics, I tried it with arms, but it only worked with a step-out.
Did you try the quintuple with a safety lounge?
Alexandra Trusova: Yes, I tried both ways.
Did it work?
Alexandra Trusova: No. Well, with a safety lounge, it’s not too difficult. But without the safety lounge, of course, it didn’t work.
Were you able to complete the quad-quad combination?
Alexandra Trusova: If I had, I would have shared it. I tried everything, but I realized that it would take a lot of work, a lot of preparation. It was just an experiment; there was no goal in it. If there had been, then maybe I would have succeeded.
Did you ever consider including the quadruple loop into your routine?
Alexandra Trusova: I didn’t because, firstly, I never jumped it consistently, not every day. I already had a very challenging routine, so I didn’t plan to add the quad loop. I planned to replace the double axel with a triple axel, even attempted it in the Olympic season, but it was much more challenging, and we abandoned that idea.
I can say that the loop is the most challenging jump; it’s unpredictable, and you can always miss the edge.”
Trusova also spoked about her attitude to jumping competition in an interview with Okko Sports. Here’s translation:
“Would you like to participate in a jumping competition in Russia?
Alexandra Trusova: Yes, I probably would. In the shape I was in during the Olympic year, yes, I would. Because then I could show a lot.
I see a jumping competition a bit differently. I believe the point is to show various jumps. To show that you can do this jump and that one. Some skaters are better at jumping with their left leg, some with their right.
Have you thought about which jumps you would perform?
Alexandra Trusova: Of course, the lutz. It’s the most expensive jump. It’s also my favorite.
Which figure skaters would you compete against (if it were an international competition)?
Alexandra Trusova: In the shape I was in back then, I would compete against Nathan, Malinin, Yuzuru, and Shoma. But now? I’m not in the shape to compete against men in jumping.”
