The “Japan Open,” a three-region figure skating competition, will be held on the October 7th. Kazuki Tomono (25), who finished 6th in last season’s World Championships and participated in the official practice at the Saitama Super Arena on the October 6th, smiled and said, “Surprisingly, when I started practicing, there was an enjoyable aspect to training.”
This off-season was busy with ice shows and other events, and there was limited time for proper rest. Tomono admitted, “Honestly, I wanted a bit more rest. Switching back to the competitive mindset was a bit challenging.” However, once he stepped onto the rink in preparation for the competition, his feelings naturally turned positive.
In the Japan Open, four skaters each from Japan, North America, and Europe will compete based on the total points from the free skate. This season, Tomono has been working on his free skate “Halston” and aims to show a “new side” of himself. He explained, “It’s a musical theme I haven’t tried before, so I just need to show good body lines and body control to raise the level of performance.”
